30-30 Rifle For Deer

How to Get Better Results When
Shooting 30-30 Bolt Action Rifles

No discussion of youth deer hunting rifles would be near complete without at least mentioning a 30-30 rifle for deer.

Pretty much everyone feels it is probably the ideal gun to start a boy out hunting with. I started out with a 30/30. It's a fine caliber for taking deer.

It's light to carry…goes easy on recoil or kick and more than enough gun to take out deer with.

Even better if you timber hunt it's a great brush gun.

Ammo? You can get ammo for them anywhere ammo is sold.

As I just did, many refer to a 30-30 as a brush gun. Will it take out a deer at 300 yards? Not likely. It's best for shots 150 yards and under. Which is still plenty of distance.

Then let me ask you this. If it wasn't a popular choice how else can you explain that you can get bolt action 30-30 rifles at just about any retail gun outlet you can find?

The 30/30 is a good choice of youth deer hunting rifles if you plan to shoot without a rest. Besides, inside a 100 to 150 yards, no deer living or dead will be able to tell the difference between your '06 and a .30-30.
