Five Bow Hunting Moose Tactics
When it's wet or snowy try stalking the paths the moose use to move from bedding to feeding areas. Just remember to stay downwind.
If in hill country, use a vantage point to peer into the leafless trees.
Stand hunting is preferable when it's cool and dry. Set up at first light near a water source or well traveled path. Early morning or late evening is when they're out feeding.
It's possible to call moose into close range during the rut. Not only are they more receptive to calling they are easier to find. Of course the bull may become suspicious 40-80 yards out when it doesn't see what it is expecting. A cow.
Ideally you want a draw weight of at least 60 pounds. And use arrows tipped with broadheads with razor sharp blades to insure they penetrate the thick hide deeply. I wouldn't hurt to apply waterproofing like silicone to the feathers either.
"It can take 6 to10 years and a lots of habitat to grow a trophy bull", Goldman reminded. "Which is why I find bow hunting Canadian moose in remote locals so special. Special animals."
