During a recent quail hunt, this South Carolina native knew he immediately needed to take steps to cool down his birds. Especially since the warm weather meant air temps were close to their body temps. One of his tricks is to keep a frozen bottle of water in his game bag. Still it's best to field dress them soon after you shoot 'em. So you want to periodically return to the truck to take care of business. If you know what I mean?
Belly up, jerk out the under side feathers to expose the belly skin..

When you get home remove any remaining organs. Pluck. Remove the feet and head. You're done.
