"Sure I could have opted for a fair chase wilderness adventure," he said. "Complete with a herd of horses and mules to get me and the guide to the area to be hunted each day. Which is something most any run-of-the-mill elk outfitters can provide." "But I felt if I was going to pay $4000 or more to go a 2 on 1 guided elk hunting adventure, I wanted to hunt private land or remote wilderness where odds were good I'd see something other than a a scrawny four-point buck. Preferably something more along the lines of a mature, 5 and 6 point elk bull." |
"I also wanted any photo opportunity to be of me beaming and holding a trophy to be proud of. Kneeling behind an animal who's shaggy mass dwarfted me in comparison," Masucci admittedly rather sheepishly.
"In most things in life I've found you get what you pay for. So why should a guided elk hunt be any different? I wanted to work with elk outfitters who were committed to helping me go home with an elk. But not just any elk."
"Besides," he continued, "you'd expect the food, lodging and so forth to be better too, no?"
Is guided elk hunting like this right for you? Not sure. I am sure Masucci got his crack at the mature bull he was hoping for.
Plus being around elk every day he learned things he could take with him on any future guided elk hunt. Even self-guided efforts on his own.
