Exciting as that is, Gene forgot to mention… No other game animal in Ontario is as revered as the moose. Or that huge, lumbering, yet elusive denizen of the North woods. Every year, thousands of hunters take to the wilds of northern Ontario, hoping to make contact with the biggest deer in the world. Are you looking to get in some moose hunting in Canada this year? If so tracking moose is one way to find them. |
Yet moose can be every bit as cagey as white-tailed deer.
Standard hunting techniques such as calling, tracking, driving, still-hunting, and stalking can be effective. But they need to be tailored to the behavior, habits, and the habitats of moose.
For example feeding areas are prime hunting habitat.
Your best still-hunting results will tend to occur during a light drizzle, which muffles sound and douses your scent.
A .30/06 will do just fine as long as you use bullets that weigh in at at least 180 grains. Like the Winchester Fail Safe, Nosler Partition, or Swift H-Frame. A friend of mine shot an Alaskan bull with an '06 a few years back. That bullet went in through the hind-quarters and exited by way of the front ribs. You can't ask for more than that.
