Seven Quail Hunting and Safety Pointers Dick Cheney ForgotMany look forward to quail hunting. And safety, not just bagging quail, should also be on your mind when hot on the trail of bobwhites. Especially given recent events involving the Vice President.
Never prop your shotgun against a tree, fence post or fallen log either. It could fall over and accidentally discharge. When the quail are flushed and fly over your head don't turn around and shoot. And for sure never shoot over any hunting buddy's head either. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you've clearly identified the target, locked in and you know what lies immediately beyond it. Always keep your "safety" on until just before shooting. When quail hunting it's always a good idea to wear a blaze orange hat/vest so you can be spotted more easily. And make sure your partner's know where you are at all times. Then make it your business to know where all other hunters and any bird dogs are. Even though quail shot is just barely the size of a pinhead, they are capable of doing damage. Still hunting bobwhite quail is a relatively safe sport if you keep a few safety rules like these in mind at all times.
