"When I got off the plane the bitter cold hit me," he admitted. "Square in the kisser. But didn't matter. I was this close," holding his index and thumb up with just a bit of daylight showing, "this close to the most untamed deer habitat on earth. "A little cold wasn't gonna stop me," Savely went on. "Not when I knew there were bucks out in the sparse brush and low rolling hills that routinely measured 135 to 175 inches. I'm talking 300 pound or more monster bucks. The likes of which I was unlikely to see, much less get a shot at, any where else." |
Saskatchewan deer hunting is renowned for producing trophy bucks. Even the relatively more unimpressive animals would make any hunter proud.
Rifle season opens in mid to late November timed to match the rut. Since that's the most popular time to hunt the best Canadian outfitters book up fast.
Given the temps ask about whether you'll be sitting in enclosed heated wood stands, a ground blind, on ladder stands or perched on a portable tree stand.

"Turns out even I wasn't really prepared for my Saskatchewan whitetail deer hunting adventure," Savely confessed meekly. "You haven't been that cold before - trust me."
"But you know what? Didn't matter in the end. The hunt and my buck's rack were all I could think and talk about when I got back on base."
