"Nothing compares to those birds in Dakota," he said. "The plains produce some real trophy toms. That haven't been hunted to death neither. Adding, "Good cammo, that blends in with the background where you're hunting, is important too. But I can't overemphasize how important keeping still is."
He went on, "You rarely see turkeys with glasses. That's because they have excellent eye-sight. To offset that you need the complete cammo package. Do so and in that case 'Advantage Henry the Hunter'. Even so, a fidgety hunter tips the scales back in favor of 'Tom the Turkey'. Since they have better than ordinary hearing too. Even the clinking of pocket change when you shift around can give you away. Which again is why you want to keep still if you have any hope of calling them into range of your shotgun."
"That may not be that important on South Dakota turkey hunts where opportunities seem limitless. But it sure as heck is important if hunting where you have to work hard to get a shot in. Like for instance at times when Virginia turkey hunting," Melvin added. Still smiling.
