In Pursuit of South Texas Whitetails in Brush Country

"I'd swear South Texas trophy bucks were literally popping up out of the brush all last season," Billy Comer nodded knowingly. "Lush feeding produced some memorable South Texas whitetails sightings for me and my buddies."


Comer went on "One buddy, Johnny Raymond, took a huge 6x6 buck over in Travis county. Truly an exceptional rack no matter how you measure it. That boy admitted he had a hard time holding the cross hairs steady that day, let me tell you. But if you are any kind of deer hunter, you can understand why."

"Funny thing was he mentioned that whitetail movement had slowed steadily as the sun climbed higher in the sky. Then suddenly there he was. Out of no where. That buck was huge! Johnny didn't have to think about pulling the trigger for very long, let me tell you. The .270 Winchester did its job."

"And isn't it funny how us little guys can benefit from the SUV driving, deep pockets who seem to have the legislature in their hip pockets. But the heavy, large antlered bucks don't care much about that I'd reckon."

That's right, the deer don't care. As a result 'big and bigger' would be a good way to describe some South Texas trophy bucks. Which would apply to the managed deer hunting ranches too. Only better I'd guess.

But it's okay. Some hunters have the money to invest for a shot. Others pay in time and sweat and sometime get lucky. Either way they all enjoy the pursuit of monster South Texas whitetails.
