Texas Spring Turkey HuntingTurkey Calling SoundsGlenn looks forward to Texas spring turkey hunting season all year. "Nothing like it. Gets here earlier every year too," he reported with a sly smile.
Turkeys have tremendous vision. They can spot the smallest detail that seems amiss. For that reason don't call from the top of a ridge. Do your calling just below the top, out of sight. Listen up. Turkeys scratch in the leaf litter on the ground. They make turkey sounds. Cup you hand behind your ear to hear that or any clucking that might be going on nearby. Give yourself an edge. Use binoculars. It's always best for you to see the gathered gobblers before they see you. You've arrived as a hunter when you can use simple stealth and turkey calling sounds to lure birds to you that previously would have heard, seen, or run from you first.
