Wanna Know How To Field Dress A Wild Turkey?

Chance was new to turkey hunting. And as a result wasn't quite sure about the ins an outs of how to field dress a wild turkey exactly. So he turned to his more experience neighbor, Lucas Morgan for some turkey field dressing tips.

"No big thing", Lucas said matter-of-factly. "Take a sharp knife and start your cut by the vent or the opening in the bird's pelvis. Then just hold the bird by the neck and shake. Whatever doesn't fall out you gotta reach in and pull out with a steady yank. Just not so hard as you cause the guts to rupture."

"In our state you also want to leave the head on and the plumage intact so you can prove the sex of the bird?"

Lucas went on, "And if it's already hot out, you want to make sure you've got a big cooler loaded with ice. To keep it from rotting on you."

"Oh and you didn't ask, but when it comes to plucking, it really lots easier if you scald your bird first in mediumly hot water. You'll know you're good when the feathers come right out without tearing his skin."

"That's a quick and dirty explanation of how to field dress a wild turkey," Lucas said with a smile. "Any questions?"
